We mourn the loss of Roy Andersen, loving husband, father, grandfather and family member.
Married to Oksana for 34 years after they met working for New York City together. Father to Timothy and Erik.
Committed to helping others, he used his gifts and skill craft to improve the lives of those around him.
As a community member, he mentored young adults at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
Roy was Norwegian by blood but Brooklyn by manner. A Wagner College alumnus & student of Peter's Valley School of Craft.
His passion for woodworking was exhibited in home architecture, furniture, dishware, transport, adornments, & artistry. His eye for refinement also drew him to wooden ship restoration in South Street Seaport, NYC.
His work career spanned various departments within New York City government agencies.
Roy called Queens home for the better part of his life where he tended to his garden and spent hours working inside his self-constructed workshop.
His hobbies included reading, bowling, paddleball, tennis, kayaking, sailing, motorcycle riding, camping, and traveling.
His legacy will continue on in the lives he's touched. To some he was "Butch", to everyone he was a model for living.
In our hearts and thoughts forever.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the American Thyroid Association:
